Background and Rationale
Establishing a stable and recurring source of donations is critical in building NHCO’s long-term financial
sustainability. The $1 a Day Campaign has been identified as the most feasible option to appeal broader
community participation. It will provide a predictable revenue stream, support ongoing fundraising efforts
and strengthen the organization’s financial position when pursuing future financing opportunities, including
potential bank lending. Most importantly, it will help create a strong financial foundation for NHCO’s future
Community Centre and Heritage Site project.
$1 a Day Campaign Overview:
- Campaign Name: $1 a Day Campaign
- Campaign Slogan: “Give 1$ a Day, Build Your Legacy Today.”
- Goal and Objectives
- Goal: The NHCO $1 a Day Campaign is a community fundraising initiative that aims to help build a permanent Community Centre and Heritage site in Ottawa within the next three to five years.
- Objectives:
- To recruit at least 100 supporters in Year 1 (2026), with continued growth of 100 additional supporters in subsequent four years.
- To generate predictable and sustainable recurring revenue through small donations.
- To build a strong donor base to support the future NHCO Community Centre and Heritage site.
- Expected Fundraising Amount
- Year 1: 100 donors = approximately $36,500
- Year 3: 300 donors = $100,000+
- Year 5: 500 donors = $200,000+
This flow of funds will establish a scalable and sustainable fundraising model that can expand as community participation grows over time.
Questions and Answers
What is the hallmark of this campaign?
- Low financial burden: Since contributions can be as little as $1 per day, participation remains affordable and accessible for most community members.
- Simple and convenient: Although monthly Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) contributions are accepted, donors are encouraged to use PAD on an annual, semi-annual, quarterly, or monthly basis. This approach minimizes administrative effort for both donors and NHCO while ensuring consistent support for the campaign.
How will the campaign be rolled out?
- Board Leadership: The campaign will be launched with the participation and support of Board
members and their families. - Board-Led Outreach: Each Board member will be encouraged to recruit at least two additional supporters to help achieve the goal of 100 registrations in the first year.
- Community Outreach: Conduct focused outreach efforts across key community hubs, including Barrhaven, Orléans, Kanata, Centrepointe, Findlay Creek, and other communities
across Ottawa and beyond, to continuously expand the donor base.
